Remember Cross Stitch? + DMC Floss + New Cross Stitch Designer

Welcome to the 26th edition of the Sewfinity newsletter, written by me, Angela Bowman.

Hi from Angela

Meridian Idaho, Sunday April 14, 2024

Good morning!

Hey, remember cross stitch?

Back when I was a kid I cross-stitched a bit, but I pretty much abandoned it. I think I got frustrated with the technique and my ability. Plus I became obsessed with boys and then with quilting 😆

But here I am back interested in cross stitch again, though I'm still obsessed with quilting and yeah boys too (luv ya babe).

Cross stitch seems to be going through a resurgence. It might be all the fun new patterns (more on that below), beautifully colored and supremely high quality fabrics (it's not just white aida anymore), hundreds and hundreds of floss colors, and lots of new nifty little tools that make cross stitch easier than it used to be. And more fun!

I spent the last couple months sourcing the best cross stitch supplies, and have ended up launching a little cross stitch shop inside of Sewfinity. Many of you know that I'm really picky about what I sell, and that holds true for all this cross stitch stuff. It all represents things that I want to personally use.

So! I invite you to take a look and let yourself pick up cross stitch again. It's something nice to do in the evenings instead of doom-scrolling 😆

NEW: DMC Embroidery Floss

Here it is, the ENTIRE line of DMC Six Strand Embroidery floss!

That's 508 colors, folks. There's 490 solids, 18 variegated, and you'll also see some floss bundles for some cross stitch patterns. I have it all stored on a single rolling chrome shelf in the warehouse, all tucked in to perfect little cabinets, which sure made my organization heart happy.

You know how we sort all our solid fabrics into color families? Well we've done that for DMC floss, too, which took awhiiiiiiiiile.

So on our website you can select the color name and see all the thread by color. I love that there's such a good representation of color in this floss line.

NEW: Cross Stitch Patterns by Counting Puddles

I am very pleased to announce that we are carrying cross stitch patterns! And it is so super sweet to say that we are starting with a Boise local designer. Her name is Lindsey and her brand is Counting Puddles.

She is a graphic designer and it sure shows. She is very talented and also just an incredibly nice person. So it's an immense pleasure to befriend Lindsey and support her by offering her patterns at Sewfinity.

Her patterns? Incredibly well designed. This one is called Love Blooms and would be a good project if you're looking to get back into cross stitch. We offer 11 of her patterns, as well as kits that include pattern + floss + fabric + needle.

What I really love about her patterns is the extra little secondary motifs and textures throughout the composition. I mean, the hearts sparkle! The leaves have so much beautiful texture! Go look at her patterns and zoom in to see all the special little details.

NEW: Cross Stitch Supplies

I have discovered so many new-to-me supplies: super-nice lions tail scissors that make the most satisfying snip sound ever, a no-slip hoop stand that'll last a lifetime, floss bobbins & stickers to keep your threads organized, and the cutest little heart-topped wire thingy that pulls your thread tails nicely through the back.

There's so much more to see, so go take a look. Lots of gift ideas here (hello Mother's Day)!

The hoop stand, needle minder, and needle threader are key to make the process enjoyable for me: I can use two hands, the threader gets the floss strands through the needle with zero fuss, and a needle minder is a pretty little magnetic landing spot for my needle. So fun!

Modern Botanical Wedding Sampler

I can't help but specifically call out this pattern by Lindsey.

Open the link below and look at the closeup shots of the design - it's pretty spectacular. The large beautiful blooms, the secondary design motifs, and the beautiful linework make this an heirloom to be made for two special people.

This pattern includes a full alphabet and number set, so there's lots of value here. And it's gorgeous!

Bundles of Essex Yarn Dyed Linen

We took all 48 colors of Robert Kaufman's Essex Yarn Dyed linen fabric collection and curated them into some scrumptious bundles for you. You all really love Essex Yarn Dyed, so this is long overdue!

There are 5 bundles, and it was really difficult choosing which picture to show you here, so I went with Blue Voyage, my fave. Go see the others, too: Geology, Berry Jam, Golden Dawn, and Living Green.

Every month (or so) Angela writes a letter about her thoughts, behind-the-scenes stuff at Sewfinity, and things worth knowing in the world of sewing. It's like getting a nice letter in the mail. Not too spammy. And not too often.
