Hi from Angela
Meridian Idaho, Sunday October 27, 2024
Good afternoon!
Are you enjoying fall? I sure am. I'm sitting on my back patio as I write this, enjoying the sights and sounds of autumn in Idaho: bright blue sky, golden sunshine, puffy white clouds, orange and red and yellow and green leaves everywhere. The breeze is perfection, making the trees sway. Their leaves sound like gentle ocean waves. The wind chimes are making their subtle soothing song. Heavenly, all of it.
I know I sound a bit cheesey, but dangit, fall seems to only last a few weeks here, so I'm savoring it!
So what's been happening behind the curtain lately at Sewfinity? We're talking about how we want to grow and how best to reinvest in our business. What new things do we want to offer our customers? What growth goals do we want to hit? What industry events are we going to attend next year? We're planning and plotting our future - something that late-October seems natural for. And we are excited!
In front of the curtain, we are happily fulfilling all your online orders. It makes me so glad to have a part of supplying your making habit. And I love seeing all our regular customers come back again and again and again. Customer service is really important to me - it is so rewarding when it's done well, plus it gives a glowy-good feeling inside. (I didn't mean for this letter to be so mushy - see what fall does to me?)
In sewing news, I made some zippered trays for SewPINK and finished a cross stitch, which I'll share below. And in shop news, we have a new rainbow flower needle minder, restock of a hard-to-acquire quilt pattern, a new fabric bundle for SewPINK, and a genius invention: hoop frames.
Enjoy fall!

SewPINK: Drop Zone Zippered Trays
October is breast cancer awareness month, and every year I look forward to participating in SewPINK, the annual event by ByAnnie to encourage people to get their screenings and to donate to breast cancer research.
SewPINK gives me an excuse each year to go back in our warehouse, peruse through Annie's patterns, and match them up to the fabrics we offer. This year I made a trio of zippered trays with ByAnnie's Drop Zone sewing pattern.
I chose Drop Zone because it's a small and simple project: it doesn't require attaching a zipper pull and there's no binding to apply. Plus I think the tray design is pretty genius.
When I made these I kept track of worked well (as I do), and compiled my tips in a blog post for you. Take a look!

SewPINK 2024 Fabric Bundle
As I was going through our fat quarter fabric bins for pinks, I started a palette of very pale pinks, some peachy-pinks, a couple of creamy neutrals, plus two Essex Yarn Dyed colors.
The resulting fabric stack made me gasp, it was so pretty. So I made it into a bundle for you :)

Rainbow Flower Needle Minder
When I saw this rainbow flower needle minder by Alison Glass, I knew I had to have one. It's so pretty on my embroidery hoop!
In case you have to have one, too, here you go! It would also make a fantastic gift for your sewing bud.

Restock of North Quilt Pattern
Speaking of Alison Glass, this quilt pattern of hers (and Giuseppe's) had been unavailable for re-order for quite some time, and we were out of stock for a long while. I'm happy to report that we have it available again. Isn't this design a beaut?

Ghost Sampler Cross Stitch
Remember this cross stitch pattern that I shared with you last month? Well I made it! It's hanging in the front entry of my home.
I stitched a couple ghosts every evening, finishing it up in couple weeks at a nice leisurely pace. I have to say I'm loving having a handwork project. So peaceful and therapeutic.
I used Aida 14-ct in Black, cutting a 10" square from our fat eighth fabric size. The design only calls for 3 colors: nice and simple. I hooped it in one of our inexpensive bamboo hoops, then framed it a beautiful 6" hoop frame by Modern Hoopla.
All those supplies can be found here:

Hoop Frames by Modern Hoopla
What are hoop frames, you ask? They are handmade frames Made in the USA by a redheaded artisan named Kate Latham in her wood shop in Virginia.
A wooden circle frame to display an embroidery hoop - utter genius! The back of the frame has a recess to hold your hoop. Works best on standard embroidery hoops with a screw tensioner. The frame will usually cover about 1/8" of the fabric of your work.
A friend of mine told me about Modern Hoopla, so I introduced myself to Kate, told her how clever she is, and promptly placed an order. So far, we carry 3 colors of her circle frames: natural, caramel, and black.
I love supporting artisans, and if you do, too, go take a look:

Every month (or so) Angela writes a letter about her thoughts, behind-the-scenes stuff at Sewfinity, and things worth knowing in the world of sewing. It's like getting a nice letter in the mail. Not too spammy. And not too often.
