Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Sewfinity newsletter, written by me, Angela Bowman.Thanksgiving is this week, are you ready?

Hi from Angela

Meridian Idaho, Sunday November 19, 2023

Good afternoon!

I'm at home right now, sitting on the loveseat next to my husband. He's watching the Las Vegas Grand Prix on TV and I'm writing this letter to you. I'm giggling because he just finished singing Viva Las Vegas in his best Elvis voice. The race just started and we've already gasped a few times: a bratty start, a minor crash, the huge weird Sphere thing, and now we're guessing who all the celebrity attendees are. I'm not a huge Formula 1 fan, but he is, and it's fun to see him enjoy it so much. Our cat Jasmine keeps trying to claim her usual spot on my lap, but she's having to make do with the hubs.

Okay, let's talk about sewing. Last week I worked in the warehouse to assemble 2 new quilt kits for you. We don't offer a ton of kits, so these are kinda special.

The first one is Star Crossed 2.0 by Suzy Quilts. I have a stockpile of Kona Cotton Nautical for some reason, I think it was unavailable a year or so ago, and people were buying it by the bolt, so I restocked it big-time. Well it's been sitting there unloved for awhile, so I thought I'd come up with a kit that uses Nautical as a background. I love a good dark background since it lets the quilt design pop. The design I chose was Suzy's Star Crossed quilt, mostly because it calls for fat quarters, something I sell anyway in every color. It also looks simple and fun to make, and you get a large-scale stunning design out of it. The color backstory: it's fall in Idaho, the tree colors in our neighborhood are gorgeous right now, and so this kit is autumn-themed. Read about it below.

The other kit is for a quilt called A Quilter's Compass, found exclusively in the 2024 Quilter's Planner. My friend Lindsie owns the publishing company behind the planner, and she asked if I'd make a kit. I said "of course!". The colors are in the QP rainbow theme and wow, are they beautiful and inspiring. The quilt sampler design is a collaborate effort, made by a bunch of talented designers.

Now let's talk about Black Friday. I've purposefully not ever done a Black Friday sale for Sewfinity. I'm just not on board with the consumerist concept and I feel that having discounts devalues what we're all about. But as a consumer, I do like getting a good deal, and so I've struggled with deciding what to do on Black Friday each year. Every year I watch all the other sewing shops run BF promotions, think that I should do something, but opt to ignore the whole thing. I think to myself: "Sewfinity's customers know that they don’t have to wait for a sale to shop with us, or wonder when’s the best time to buy, since we have fair pricing every day of the year".

But then I went to Winco last week for grocery shopping, Since I bought a certain amount of groceries, I got a free turkey. When the cashier told me that, heckyeah I sprint-walked to the frozen turkey bin and nabbed an 18-pounder.

Our first-ever Black Friday promotion is sort of like that. A joy-evoking customer experience that doesn't devalue the products we offer. Or so I hope.

Black Friday

Here it is, our Black Friday promotion. I've teased it on Instagram, but am sharing the full deal with you.

Every month (or so) Angela writes a letter about her thoughts, behind-the-scenes stuff at Sewfinity, and things worth knowing in the world of sewing. It's like getting a nice letter in the mail. Not too spammy. And not too often.

Welcome to the 30th edition of the Sewfinity newsletter, written by me, Angela Bowman. Hi from Angela Meridian Idaho, Sunday September 22, 2024 Good morning! I have been sewing so much the past few weeks! It is absolutely true that sewing increases our happiness, because I'm sure feeling the euphoria.
